My family was comfortably middle class, back in the halcyon days when a household income of ~$100,000 could still provide stability and opportunity for a family of four.I've always loved reading books about history and politics (check out my <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/16246433-michael-farrell" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Goodreads</a> if so inclined), and I grew up knowing I wanted to be a public servant one day. I came of age during the Clinton and Bush presidencies, and saw how decisions in Washington could profoundly impact the lives of working class Americans. And most of the time what I saw was folks in Washington cutting the social safety net, prioritizing tax breaks for the wealthy, and spending billions of dollars on foreign wars while American families struggled to get by.Those lessons stuck with me. I believed government could and should work for working people. I dreamed of one day being a progressive voice in Congress, challenging special interests and working hard against career politicians who had lost touch with the people they were elected to serve.

Law Day is an annual event sponsored by the American Bar Association on May 1st.AJFA believes everyone should have access to legal representation, regardless of their financial status. This race raises funds that will be used to provide free and low cost civil legal aid services to help vulnerable people protect their rights, access essential services, and live with dignity.All proceeds will go to support free and low cost civil legal aid programs in Utah.

The Town Hall was conducted along the lines of a presidential debate, with questions gathered in advance from prospective audience members through a form on the website of the 71 Percent Coalition. Two moderators one each from the 71 Percent Coalition and Black Lives Matter (Utah Chapter) guided the discussion.

“It’s all well and fine to apologize for saying these things, but Nate is obviously not fit to serve in elected office,” Farrell said. The post about filming an underage sister should be “disqualifying from holding public office” and voters should be “removing the Epstein class from politics, not electing folks like Nate Blouin,” a reference to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

CD-01 Candidate Forum at the Alta Club

On Thursday, June 11, the Alta Club will welcome the four candidates on the June 23rd primary ballot for Congressional District One. The event will begin at 11:30 with a buffet lunch, the scheduled program will run from 12:00 to 1:00, and audience members will linger afterward to communicate directly with candidates until approximately 1:30. This forum will ask all candidates to give timed responses to the same questions. Robert Gehrke of the Salt Lake Tribune will moderate.&nbsp;If time allows, audience questions will be taken. At least 75 guests are expected, and the space can hold 100.&nbsp;The Alta Club free parking lot is located at 164 E. South Temple, the two-level lot may be accessed from either South Temple or 2nd East (south of Big O Tires). Non Alta Club members are invited and welcomed.
